We can't read
your messages.

Every other AI inbox works by uploading your messages. Textly doesn't have that option: the models ship inside the app and run on your hardware. That single decision is what makes everything else safe.

  • Scam & phishing detection. Fake parcel notices, bank warnings and payment traps get flagged before you tap the link.
  • Encrypted on your device. The local message store and your channel logins sit behind Android's hardware-backed keystore.
  • End-to-end encryption preserved. WhatsApp messages stay encrypted in transit and are decrypted only on your device. SMS, by contrast, has no end-to-end encryption at all.
  • Spam filtering without a server. Nothing is sent away to be classified. The filter is a file inside the app.

Questions, answered

Does the AI actually read my messages? Where does it run?

Yes, it reads them (that is the point), but it does so entirely on your phone. The models ship inside the app and run on your device's own processor. There is no API call, no cloud inference and no server that receives your conversations, because Textly does not operate one.

The practical consequence: summaries and answers still work in airplane mode, and nobody at Textly can read a message even if they were asked to.

Which channels can I connect?

WhatsApp, plus SMS and MMS natively, plus Telegram, Discord and Slack. Every connection is optional. Textly works perfectly well as a pure SMS app if that is all you want.

Each channel is linked from your own account and the resulting credentials are stored in Android's hardware-backed keystore on your device. Disconnecting a channel removes them along with its cached messages.

How does the WhatsApp connection work?

It does not connect to WhatsApp, and that is deliberate. WhatsApp offers no interface for other apps, and the tools that imitate its official client put your number at risk of being banned. We are not willing to gamble your account, so Textly reads WhatsApp's Android notifications instead.

In practice: messages appear as they arrive, and you can reply while the notification is live. What you do not get is history, media, or anything from a chat you have muted, because a notification that never appears cannot be read. Your account is untouched, since nothing was ever linked to it.

This is Android only. iOS has no equivalent, so WhatsApp cannot work this way on an iPhone.

What about iMessage or Signal?

Neither is supported, and we would rather say so plainly than imply otherwise. iMessage has no client interface outside Apple's own devices, and Signal's design deliberately prevents third-party access, which is precisely the point of Signal.

So my messages never leave my phone?

Textly never uploads them, and there is no Textly server for them to go to. Everything the app itself does (storage, search, summaries, scam detection, extraction) happens locally.

To be precise about the parts that are not ours. Telegram is a real connection: Textly talks to their servers to fetch and send, exactly as their own app does. WhatsApp, Discord and Slack are not connections at all, because Textly reads their notifications on your device and never contacts those services. SMS travels over your carrier's network. In every case the data already lives there; Textly changes where you read it, not who hosts it.

Is it encrypted?

On your device, yes: the local message database and all channel credentials are protected by Android's hardware-backed keystore.

In transit it depends on the protocol, and we won't pretend otherwise. WhatsApp messages remain end-to-end encrypted, and Textly never weakens that: WhatsApp decrypts them on your phone as it always has, and Textly reads the result there. Telegram, Discord and Slack are encrypted to their servers but readable by those services. SMS is a carrier protocol with no end-to-end encryption at all. No app can change that, and any app claiming it can is misleading you.

How does scam detection work?

An on-device model looks at a message's structure, sender and intent: a courier asking for a card payment, a "bank" manufacturing urgency, a payment link on a domain that doesn't match the sender it claims to be. Suspicious messages are flagged, moved to Spam and have their links disabled until you decide otherwise.

Nothing is uploaded for classification, and you can always overrule the verdict. Textly remembers your correction locally.

Is it really free? What's the catch?

Free, with no ads, no paid tier and no data sold. Because the intelligence runs on your device rather than on rented GPUs, Textly has no per-message cost to pass on, which is precisely what makes giving it away sustainable.

Why does Textly need to be my default SMS app?

Android only allows one app at a time to receive and manage SMS. Without that role, Textly cannot show your texts, receive new ones or send messages.

You can switch back to your previous app at any time in Android settings. Your SMS live in Android's message storage rather than inside Textly, so nothing is lost either way.

Which devices are supported?

Both iPhone and Android. Running language models locally needs modern hardware, so Textly targets recent devices on each platform: [MIN. iOS VERSION / DEVICE] and [MIN. ANDROID VERSION / RAM].

One difference worth knowing: SMS and MMS are not available on iPhone, because Apple provides no interface for a third-party app to read or send text messages. Everything else is identical. See the full comparison.

What happens to my data if I uninstall?

It goes away with the app, because the device is the only place it ever was. Your SMS stay in Android's message storage and will be available to your next default SMS app. Your WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord and Slack history stays on those services, untouched.
